The Blues want the Argentine as successor to Antonio Conte, who is set to leave the club after Saturday's FA Cup Final against Manchester United.

Pochettino hinted his future hinges on transfer funds after Spurs once again finished trophy-less but in third place in the Premier League.

He claimed chairman Daniel Levy and the club needed to "take risks and be brave" to win trophies.

Pochettino's outburst was seen as his way of calling for the north Londoners to spend big in the transfer market this summer and pay top wages to keep their established stars.

But it is believed Levy is ready to back Pochettino and that Chelsea's advances will be rejected by the 46-year-old, who is happy at Spurs and keen to carry on his project of next season's move into their new stadium.

Pochettino's rallying cry for investment was backed by outspoken left-back Danny Rose.

Rose landed himself in hot water at the start of the season when he called on the club to sign players "he doesn't have to Google" and to pay him what he was worth.

Last night the England ace refused to back down from his comments, saying: "I regret nothing - I didn't tell any lies."

And he threw his weight behind his manager's post match comments on Sunday.

Supporting his boss, he added: "It is good that the manager has come out and said that.

"I hope the manager, his coaching staff, the recruitment staff and the chairman can all come together and give the manager what he wants.

"I am fully behind whatever happens in the off-season. I hope we get some good recruits to help us push on and as the manager said the next step is to try and hopefully win something this year."
