Mark Robins urges Coventry to embrace play-offs

Coventry boss Mark Robins has told his side to have no fear ahead of their play-off with Notts County.

The Sky Blues host the Magpies in Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two semi-final first leg.

The teams finished just two points apart in the regular season and Robins wants his side to relax.

He told the club’s official site: “We are not going to worry about what may or may not happen, we are just going to work as well as we can do. The quality is there. The players just need to embrace it and enjoy it.

“We just have to embrace it. We have got a plan and we just need to stick to it.

“I remember the game against Crewe in the Football League Trophy a few years ago and the Ricoh was a full house.

“We just wanted to score on every attack and then three counter-attack goals made it an uphill struggle for us.

“Kevin Nolan will be saying the same thing to his team. If you are still in the tie for the second leg then you have to be happy because it is two games.”

County finished two points ahead of Coventry in the table with the Sky Blues winning 3-0 at home before a 2-1 defeat at Meadow Lane in April.

Coventry’s Jordan Willis should return after illness and striker Max Biamou should be fully fit after his own illness saw him start on the bench against Morecambe last week.

Mason Bennett will not feature for Notts County due to a hamstring injury but boss Nolan is hopeful the Derby loanee will return to Meadow Lane next season.

They could be playing in Sky Bet League One by then and Nolan is also keen to ensure his troops keep calm.

“Every game I try to keep a level of consistency but there’s no hiding place now. If we win these next two we go to Wembley, and that’s the be all and end all,” he told the club’s official site.

“For me, it’s about making sure I give the lads the right direction to help them do themselves – and all of us – proud.

“I was very lucky to play in two play-offs and one of those was in my first season as a player, so to be replicating that as a manager is magnificent.”
