George Miller earns Bury a morale-boosting victory

Already-relegated Bury gave their fans something to cheer about as they beat Portsmouth 1-0 in their last home game of the season.
Pompey came into the game with a slim chance of sneaking into the play-offs, but their rivals went in front through George Miller’s 68th-minute strike.
And the Shakers held on to secure just their eighth league win of a miserable season – and their first in 11 games.
Bury had gone closest early on as Harry Bunn and Neil Danns fired wide, while Jay O’Shea volleyed over.
Pompey’s Ollie Hawkins then somehow headed wide from a Jamal Lowe cross before the same player fired wide just before half-time.
O’Shea and Hawkins were then off-target before Cameron Burgess headed over from a Pompey corner.
A Bury corner resulted in Miller’s close-range shot being headed off the line by Brett Pitman.
But moments later goalkeeper Luke McGee failed to clear a back-pass before being tackled by Miller, with the loose ball rolling over the goal-line for the Middlesbrough loanee’s seventh goal of the season.
Home keeper Joe Murphy then denied Matt Kennedy and Conor Chaplin to give rock-bottom Bury a rare victory.
