Sutton secure third spot to leave Aldershot facing Ebbsfleet eliminator

Sutton sealed third place in the National League with a 2-1 victory over Aldershot at Gander Green Lane.
After Aldershot were denied a 17th-minute opener when Jamie Collins cleared a Scott Rendell effort off the line, the home side went ahead four minutes into the second half when Tommy Wright stabbed the ball in for his 13th goal of the season.
But Aldershot were level nine minutes later, Rendell tucking home from the penalty spot after Shamir Fenelon was fouled.
Rendell glanced a header just wide before Sutton regained the lead 11 minutes from time, Ross Lafayette prodding home after keeper Lewis Ward spilled Tom Bolarinwa’s drive.
Sutton will now await their opponents in a home semi-final while Aldershot will welcome Ebbsfleet to the Recreation Ground on Wednesday in their eliminator.
