Liverpool fans will have to pay higher prices for away tickets at Roma

Liverpool fans will have to pay £73 for a ticket for their Champions League semi-final second leg tie against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

The club have received an allocation of 5,000 for the 70,634-capacity stadium with supporters who have attended at least one away European fixture either this season or two years ago first in line.

The £73 fee marks a significant increase from the £44.50 figure that Chelsea fans paid for their side's group-stage game away at Roma earlier in the competition.

"AS Roma have instructed us to write the name of each supporter attending on the ticket purchased," said a statement on Liverpool's official website.

"ID will be requested at the turnstiles when accessing the stadium and checked against the name on the ticket.

"Please do not attempt to remove the name from the ticket as you may be refused entry."

Fans group Spirit of Shankly, who complained about pricing for the last-16 away leg in Porto, have called for action again.

"The price that Roma are charging for tickets is appalling. It's a clear case of hiking the price to monetise our loyal support," said a statement on the group's Twitter account.

"Like Porto before them, Roma have decided our fans should pay a premium for the opportunity to see their team.

"We call on LFC, along with other clubs, to protest to UEFA in the strongest terms that away fans in Europe, already faced with high travel costs to follow their team, should not be taken advantage of in future and that away ticket prices should be capped."
