Ouzy See injury overshadows Montrose’s win over Berwick

Scottish League Two leaders Montrose claimed a disrupted 1-0 win over Berwick to stay top, while Cowdenbeath’s fate was confirmed after their loss at Peterhead.

Chris Templeman opened the scoring for the leaders in the 11th minute when he tapped in from Andrew Seeves’ shot before the game was halted for an hour as Berwick striker Ouzy See was treated for what appeared to be a serious leg injury and an ambulance was called.

See was carried from the field on a stretcher and both sides completed a short warm-up before resuming the first half, with Aaron Murrell on as a replacement.

Berwick saw Jack Hamilton’s effort disallowed for offside late in the first half and that was as close as they got, with Montrose holding on to remain three points clear at the top.

Second-placed Peterhead kept pace on the leaders after Jason Brown’s 80th-minute goal saw them beat Cowdenbeath 1-0 at Balmoor Stadium.

Peterhead’s win was also good news for Berwick, with the result confirming they are now mathematically safe from relegation at Cowdenbeath’s expense.

Cowdenbeath will now compete in the Pyramid play-off against either Cove Rangers or Spartans FC, who will meet in a two-leg Highland League/Lowland League play-off, with their Scottish League Two future on the line.

Mark Ferry snatched a last-gasp winner for Stenhousemuir as they defeated Annan 3-2.

Ferry headed in Eddie Ferns’ delivery in the 90th minute to keep the Warriors in fourth place in the standings.

Steven Swinglehurst scored the opener for Annan when he found himself unmarked at the back post and headed the visitors in front in the 19th minute.

However, the hosts were back on level terms five minutes later when Harrison Paton unleashed a rocket into the top right corner.

The Warriors took the lead in the 53rd minute thanks to Paton’s penalty, but Aidan Smith equalised for Annan shortly after the hour mark before Ferry’s late goal.

Clyde moved up to fifth and three points adrift of fourth-placed Stenhousemuir after a 2-1 win over Stirling.

Jack Boyle broke the deadlock for the hosts six minutes into the second half, but the visitors were quickly back on terms thanks to Daniel Jardine’s 53rd-minute header.

Boyle netted again after some confusion when he was played through on goal, only for his shot to be ruled out for offside. However, the referee overturned his assistant’s decision and the goal stood.

Elgin slipped to sixth after they drew 1-1 with Edinburgh City.

Elgin hit the front in the third minute when Shane Sutherland found the net, but Gareth Rodger levelled five minutes into the second half.
