Ryan Lowe ‘distraught’ after Bury’s relegation is confirmed

Boss Ryan Lowe admitted he was “gutted” after Bury’s relegation was confirmed following a 3-2 home defeat by Northampton.
Lowe did not hold back after the final whistle having watched the Shakers slump to a seventh straight defeat.
A return to League Two beckons after three seasons in the third tier, and Lowe said: “I’m really struggling to sum up how I feel at the moment.
“I’m disappointed, I’m upset, and to be honest I’m feeling a bit distraught about it all.
“There’s not been enough fight, there’s not been enough scrap from too many players out there.
“I want players to see what this relegation means to people, what it means to the fans.
“Unfortunately I’m not seeing enough. I don’t think this relegation means enough to some players and that’s pretty gutting.
“I’m gutted, 100 per cent I am, and I’m not prepared to take all the responsibility for this relegation.
“The players out there need to take more responsibility, and that has been the case too often over these past few games.
“We’re conceding goals too easily, and that’s so hard for me to take.
“We’ve still got a few games left to play, and I’ll be ruthless in my team selections.
“We’ve got some great young players at the club, but you have to wonder when the best time is to throw them in. Maybe now it’s time to give them a chance.”
Ash Taylor scored his first of two goals for Northampton after six minutes as he glanced home Matt Grimes’ corner.
Bury levelled when skipper Peter Clarke volleyed home from five yards, before early substitute Sam Hoskins restored the Cobblers’ lead before half-time.
Danny Mayor’s solo strike levelled it up again with 16 minutes to go, before Taylor tapped in with two minutes left to finally sink the Shakers.
The crucial victory gives the Cobblers hope of avoiding the drop. They are now three points shy of the safety line with three games left to play.
Caretaker boss Dean Austin said: “It was quite a tense game from our point of view, but we got the three points in the end and I thought we probably deserved it based on clear-cut chances.
“Since I’ve taken over, with regards to the group – and I’m talking about the starters and the subs – they’ve worked phenomenally hard. Their commitment has been unbelievable.
“It wasn’t always pretty today and there were moments when we were under stress, but we’ve spoken about it that when we suffer, we have to suffer together as a team.
“Everybody handles pressure in different ways, and you only have to lose a few games and then you don’t always know what the players are thinking.
“Some of them might let that fear factor enter their heads, some might go the other way. The time is not for talking now, though, it’s the time for us all to be doing.”
