Grimsby set for double boost ahead of Barnet clash

Grimsby boss Michael Jolley could be handed a double boost ahead of Saturday’s vital League Two relegation clash with Barnet.

Defender Ben Davies and striker Simeon Jackson have both trained this week and are in contention to return for a game in which victory would significantly ease the club’s relegation fears.

Davies has missed the last three games while loan signing Jackson has been out of action since February with a hamstring problem.

Midfielder Siriki Dembele returned from an eye injury for last weekend’s 1-0 win over Chesterfield, but Paul Dixon and Karleigh Osborne remain on the sidelines.

Barnet will make late checks on three players as boss Martin Allen contends with an injury crisis.

Defender Ricardo Santos, midfielder Dan Sweeney and striker John Akinde will all have fitness tests ahead of the trip to Blundell Park.

But goalkeeper Jamie Stephens, defenders Elliott Johnson (knee) and Harry Taylor (broken metatarsal) and striker Dave Tarpey (knee) are all out and join a lengthy list of absentees.

Midfielder Mauro Vilhete remains sidelined alongside George Legg, Fuad Sule, Simeon Akinola, Darnell Smith and Ephron Mason-Clark.
