Stevenage draw sees Mansfield winless run continue

Will Atkinson’s equaliser salvaged a 1-1 draw for Mansfield at Stevenage but their winless run was extended to nine games as their play-off hopes continue to fade.
The Stags are a point off the top seven in League Two after an improved second-half showing, but a win for manager David Flitcroft remains elusive after eight matches in charge.
Stevenage went ahead after 15 minutes when Joe Martin’s low corner caught Mansfield’s defence napping, with Danny Newton flashing a first-time effort high into the net.
Kane Hemmings headed a good chance wide for Mansfield before Newton was denied a second just before half-time when his low effort from outside the box was clawed away by Conrad Logan.
The Stags equalised six minutes into the second half, as Hemming left Hayden White’s dangerous cross for Atkinson, who produced a classy finish on the half-volley.
Borough almost regained their lead when Luke Amos’ effort was beaten away by Logan before Hemmings was denied a winner with six minutes left by a flying save from Tom King.
