Arsenal's Mesut Ozil sends message to Indian couple who named son after him

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has this evening taken to social media to send a message to the Indian couple who recently named their son after him.

Tribute

A video doing the rounds online over the last 48 hours highlighted the story of die-hard Gunners' fan Inzamam Ul-Haq, and wife Fida Sanam.

The couple, from Kerala (a state on India's Malibar coast), have been gaining widespread attention after deciding to name their newborn son Mehd Ozil.

Representatives from Arsenal paid a visit to Kerala to meet the couple over the weekend, with Ul-Haq, a 26-year-old civil engineer, having revealed the inspiration behind the decision to name his newborn son after German midfielder Ozil:

'I have always been an Arsenal fan, the mighty team which included French legend Thierry Henry attracted me towards the club since my school days.'

'Ever since Fida was pregnant we were thinking of naming our kid after an Arsenal player, even though many of my friends suggested that we should name him after the long-term club manager Arsene Wenger, I preferred Ozil.'

'Great honour'

And, in a brilliant gesture this evening, Mezut Ozil himself has responded to the gesture on the part of Ul-Haq and Sanam, posting the following message on Twitter:

Great honour to be the inspiration for the name of this child 😅 Sending my best wishes back to India and all the best for Mehd Ozil 😉🇮🇳🙏🏼 Hope Mehd will assist his family with lots of smiles and memories in the years to come 😬 #YaGunnersYa @Arsenal pic.twitter.com/YfMbcTChAZ
