Michael Jolley relieved to end Grimsby winless run with Chesterfield victory

Michael Jolley admits Grimsby still have plenty of work to do in the race for League Two safety, despite a crucial 1-0 victory over Chesterfield.
Heading into the game winless in four months, a late Mitch Rose penalty earned three points for the Mariners against their relegation rivals.
The decisive goal came two minutes from time in a game that lacked clear-cut opportunities, but the home side ultimately took the one that came their way to record a first win in 21 games.
Jolley, for whom this was a first win in charge of the Mariners, said: “We are happy, and certainly relieved.
“When you go that long without winning a game, there is no escaping the fact that pressure builds on everyone at the football club.
“I have to give my players credit, because they have remained positive and have continued to play on the front foot.
“We are not perfect, and we are well aware of that. But it’s a powerful thing when you have got lads that will put a real shift in.
“I’m really proud to be their manager today.
“It was an important fixture, and we spoke about that pre-match, but we can’t get too carried away – there is still a job to do.
“Chesterfield can still overtake us if they win their games in hand. We have still got four games to go, and we need to pick up points from them.”
Spireites manager Jack Lester, who represented both clubs as a player, thought an incorrect penalty decision cost his side.
Referee Robert Madley pointed to the spot after Sid Nelson was adjudged to have handled the ball.
Lester said: “I’ve had a good look at it again. It hit his shoulder and the referee has given it.
“You have got to get those decisions right, and he has guessed. He has had to look through bodies. You can’t be guessing on a decision like that.
“It has given them three points in a game where I thought we looked very comfortable.
“I would have liked us to have been better going forward, of course, but we had numerous openings in the first half.
“We should have got ourselves into the lead, but you can’t guess big decisions.
“As expected, the dressing room is down. We came here thinking we could win, and we had chances to do that.
“In the end, it has been decided by something we can’t control.”
