Phil Brown: Swindon have work to do after Easter draws

Swindon boss Phil Brown admitted his side had damaged their Sky Bet League Two play-off hopes by dropping points in their last two games.

The Robins followed their 1-1 home draw against Morecambe on Friday with an identical result at Crawley on Monday to remain three points adrift of a place in the top seven.

The former Hull manager took the reins at Swindon with 10 matches remaining but he has only won once so far.

They needed a late equaliser from substitute Marc Richards on Monday after Jimmy Smith volleyed Crawley into a first-half lead.

“We have dropped four points from our last two games but there is still plenty of points to play for,” said Brown.

“I am trying to mould this group. I would have liked to have got my teeth into it around Christmas time but it is a 10-game challenge.

“I accepted the challenge and I am getting to know the group. (Player/coach) Matt Taylor recognises the same strengths and weaknesses as I do.”

Swindon, who have only won one of their last six games, lost top scorer Luke Norris with a dislocated shoulder early on and Brown is not sure whether he will play again this term.

“If Luke needs an operation he won’t play again this season but we don’t know at the moment,” said Brown.

“We will really be going for it in our remaining games and I’ve got to get the manager`s expertise across to the players.”

Crawley head coach Harry Kewell felt it was a case of two points dropped by his side, who have now gone seven games without a win.

“We are angry because Swindon didn`t deserve anything,” said the former Leeds and Liverpool player.

“Results like this make me angry; I`m disappointed only to get a draw. I cannot fault a single player.”

Crawley had their biggest crowd of the season – 5,008 due to a pay-what-you-can initiative – and Kewell felt the fans were entertained.

He added: “We played good football and it was a great display. I have an idea of how I want to play.

“This club hasn`t played this kind of football before; there is still a lot to come. My players are improving.

“We still have five games to play and I won`t let the season fizzle out. We will be focused and we will play the right way.”
