Mark Robins delighted as Coventry extend unbeaten run

Coventry boss Mark Robins was delighted to see his side’s unbeaten run in Sky Bet League Two extend to seven matches thanks to Max Biamou’s late equaliser at Rodney Parade.

The 1-1 draw against Newport means the Sky Blues move up one place into sixth with seven games left to play.

“Newport have got a way of playing that puts you under pressure and makes you graft,” said Robins.

“We let one real chance go in the first half and it was a poor goal to concede to their central defender.

“But we battled away and deserved the point. Lee Burge made one save that was out of this world, but we didn’t create enough and as well as putting us under pressure, they stifled us a bit.

“When you aren’t playing at your best and don’t lose the game it makes it a really good point. Max Biamou took his goal really well, he was composed and kept it down.

“Momentum is important at this stage of the season and we have a big game on Monday against Yeovil. This is a good point that keeps us in good form.

“Sometimes the subs make a difference and sometimes they don’t. People raise their game against us because it is a big, big game for them when they play against us.”

Biamou scored with his first touch, two minutes after coming on in the 77th minute, after Kyel Reid had picked up a free ball gifted to him by a missed clearance by Newport’s Ben White.

“It was unlike Ben to make a mistake like that,” said Newport manager Michael Flynn, who saw his side take the lead through Mickey Demetriou’s first-half goal.

“I told him he might be able to go in with his studs up to trap the ball on a nice pitch, but you can’t do that at Rodney Parade.

“It’s about him learning from it and I’m sure he will because he’s a bright player. We were the better team in the second half, but Coventry are one of the form teams.

“They are a big club in this division, but they found it tough against us. Half-a-dozen players had an off day last week against Crewe. But I thought they were excellent today and I was proud of their performance.

“They have been fantastic this season and their performance deserved the full three points. They came with a lot of confidence, but we grew into the game.

“We were so much better in the second half, although in the end I was frustrated to draw, but delighted not to lose because they have quality throughout.

“Now we are up for another scrap with Chesterfield on Monday. That’s going to be a tough game for us.”
