Coventry form has raised belief – Robins

Mark Robins says his Coventry side have finally found their belief after their 4-0 win over Grimsby.

City took charge when Peter Vincenti headed home Jordan Shipley’s free-kick on 38 minutes and Marc McNulty’s hat-trick clinched a comprehensive win.

The win, City’s fourth in five games, left boss Robins full of praise for the Sky Blues’ overall performance.

“I am really pleased for McNulty, but also for the players because this was a real team display,” he said.

“We do not want to get carried away, but the belief is there now and the mentality is right. It has taken a long time for the belief to come.

“We want to keep building the momentum now. We have come together in the summer as a team and you need time to gel, we are doing that now.

“We have had ups and downs through the season. It is a good win, but have not achieved anything yet.

“We will keep doing what we are doing and keep believing. It was a good performance, we were clinical in front of goal.

“It took a little time to get going, but once we did we were good all over the pitch.

“The finishing today was magnificent, the set-pieces were good and the balls in were good.”

The Mariners, now without a win in 17 matches, were left to rue their bad fortune after twice having shots cleared off the line but boss Michael Jolley felt they paid the price for a below-par second half.

He said: “Today’s second-half performance was not of the required standard.

“I’m very unhappy and that second half just wasn’t good enough, but Coventry away is always going to be tough.

“We lost our shape in the second half. We need to become more resilient and able to stay in games when we’re 2-0 down. Our decision-making wasn’t great when we conceded a couple.

“I need to have another look at the game and reflect so we can improve over Easter. We have got to regroup now ahead of Stevenage on Friday.

“We’ve got seven games to change the fortune of our season and I hope we can be in League Two next season. We’re still alive, we’re still fighting.

“I said when I joined the club that it won’t be straightforward, but we’ve just got to stick together because these players are wearing the black and white stripes of Grimsby.”
