John Baird bags brace as Morton win seals Brechin relegation

Brechin’s relegation from the Scottish Championship was confirmed following a 2-0 defeat at Morton.
A brace from John Baird finally condemned City, who have now not won in 29 league matches this season, to the drop.
Anything less than a win would have sealed Brechin’s fate and, after their goalkeeper Graeme Smith made two fine saves early on, Paul McLean missed a great chance to put them ahead as he sent a free header wide from close range.
But Morton continued to create chances and Baird made them count, heading in Gary Fraser’s cross in the 50th minute before producing another composed finish 18 minutes from time.
