Montrose leave it late to knock Peterhead off top spot

Montrose replaced Peterhead at the top of Scottish League Two following a come-from-behind 3-2 win over their promotion rivals at Links Park.

Jordon Brown (37) and Allan Smith (63) twice put Peterhead, unbeaten in six since losing at home to Montrose last month, ahead only for Terry Masson (61) and Chris Templeman (71) to restore parity.

But Lewis Milne popped up with the winner with eight minutes remaining to extend Montrose’s unbeaten run to seven games and give them a three-point lead with a game in hand.

Cowdenbeath’s long wait for a win arrived as they beat Elgin 3-1 at Central Park.

The Blue Brazil had one just once in 26 league game – against Edinburgh on August 12 – but gave their suffering fans something to cheer at last.

Robbie Buchanan opened the scoring six minutes before half-time and Jordyn Sheerin added a second two minutes later with his first goal for the club.

Shane Sutherland reduced the arrears in the 61st minute but David Cox wrapped up the points four minutes from time.

Neil McLaughlin netted in the fifth minute of stoppage time to earn Stirling a 2-2 draw at Edinburgh.

Scott Shepperd, with his seventh goal in nine games, put City ahead in the 24th minute but Daniel Jardine (32) lashed in a leveller.

Gareth Rodger 978) put Edinburgh back in front only for McLaughlin to have the final say.

Blair Henderson and Kevin Nicoll traded goals as Annan and Clyde drew 1-1 while the match between Berwick and Stenhousemuir was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
