Klopp not thinking about leaving Anfield – Alex Manninger

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Alex Manninger believes Reds manager Jurgen Klopp will not be leaving Anfield anytime soon.

The affable German has proved hugely popular on and off the pitch since arriving at Liverpool in 2015, lifting the spirits and hopes of Reds supporters by guiding his side to the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in nine years.

Despite still having to lift a trophy with Liverpool – he came close in 2016 when he reached the final of the League Cup and the Europa League but tasted defeat both times instead– Manninger believes the former Dortmund boss will remain on Merseyside for the foreseeable future.

Klopp's current deal runs until 2022, which he signed after he renewed his contract in July 2016.

"Klopp will not, for a second, think about leaving Liverpool because he has just renewed his contract," he told Il BiancoNero.

"He doesn't like to leave his job half done and he wants to complete the job that he started in 2015."

Liverpool are still in the race to finish in the top four this season as they remain just one point behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur and five behind Manchester United.

Klopp's Reds, since taking over from Brendan Rodgers in 2015, has undergone a complete squad overhaul. He has drafted in the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

After progressing through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after a 5-0 aggregate win over Porto, Manninger believes that his former side are in good stead to win the whole competition.

"Liverpool? It will be a very balanced quarter-final," Manninger continued.

"My former teammates have made a great return to the Champions League. They are a very competitive and are no less than Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"The Reds are a sight to behold and together with Manchester City, are a team that scores the most in the Premier League."

Liverpool will find out their European Cup opponents in the draw this Friday.
