Gary Bowyer happy to see Blackpool rewarded

Gary Bowyer felt Blackpool were worthy of the three points as Jimmy Ryan’s stoppage-time goal against Charlton earned them a 1-0 victory.

It was Blackpool’s first win at Bloomfield Road since October and Bowyer felt the result was overdue given the performances from his side over recent matches.

The result lifts Blackpool to 14th in League One and dents Charlton’s chances of narrowing the gap on the play-off places.

Bowyer said: “It was a fabulous performance. I’ve spoken about the desire from us to put it right. It’s not been from a lack of desire or performances from us.

“I’m struggling to think of when we’ve played badly at home. You saw that desire tonight from them. A little bit more care in the final third and we might have won it by a bit more.

“I feared it would be one of those nights again. The way that we kept going and didn’t give up, you saw the quality of the three strikes we had at the end in the build up to the goal.

“We hadn’t had a 90th-minute winner this season and we’ve ticked that off the list tonight. We needed it.

“The winner is that moment of quality that we are looking for. We knew tonight we had the possibility to climb the table.

“We have to kick on now, there’s a real buzz and rightly so but it’s back on the training ground to try and back it up now.”

Blackpool clinched victory in the first minute of added-time as the ball broke to Ryan who thumped into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Charlton boss Karl Robinson had no complaints with the result and took responsibility for his side’s performance.

He said: “I thought we were poor, they deserved it. I have to take responsibility, I’m the manager and I don’t mind fingers being pointed at me even though we are still in a better position than we were because of the way we started the season.

“We have to stick together. We have to make sure that the season is nowhere near over. We have failed over the course of a seven-day week and that’s not acceptable.”
