Mark Robins relieved to have three points after Coventry struggle past Barnet

Relieved Coventry boss Mark Robins felt his side were rusty at the start of their 1-0 win over Barnet.

The play-off chasing Sky Blues left it late to beat basement boys Barnet as Jonson Clarke-Harris scored 15 minutes from time to secure a vital three points in the League Two play-off race.

Robins said: “It’s three valuable points from us and it’s more relief than anything else really.

“We started really sluggish and we looked like a team who hadn’t played for 10 days to be honest.

“It was good to get it out of our system and get the three points on the board.

“We had a couple of bits of quality, but we found it tough.

“We had to stick in, they’re fighting for their lives and the pitch was very poor.

“We had to rely on two great saves from Lee Burge, one of which was world class.

“It was lacklustre which is painful to say. It shows you there is no substitute for playing games.

“I told them to up the tempo at half-time we looked like we were inviting them to score and we gave them chances.”

Barnet threw everything at the hosts but came away with nothing after Lee Burge pulled off a string of fine saves.

Bees boss Graham Westley said: “I think the players can walk away with their heads held high.

“It’s not often you come away to a big stadium in League Two against a big team and dominate proceedings.

“We played some really good quality football. We had patterns where we unlocked their defence.

“Let’s face facts – their keeper was inspired. He made several exceptional saves.

“We probably didn’t handle their pressure when the crowd got behind them.

“That’s something we can learn from. I think the players deserve a lot of credit.

“There won’t be many times we have that many shots against a top team and come away with nothing.

“The attitude, composure and discipline was great. We are where we are and we have to focus on the next 10 games.

“It’s in our hands to close the gap. We’re playing some cup finals against teams we can drag back into the mire.

“We’re going into battle as a club as a team who are playing some very good League Two football.”
