Exeter boss Paul Tisdale satisfied with a point against Carlisle

Exeter manager Paul Tisdale felt a draw was the fair result as his side’s League Two clash with Carlisle ended 1-1.

Tisdale’s side went in front after 42 minutes through Dean Moxey, but Carlisle grabbed a deserved equaliser 19 minutes after the break when Ashley Nadesan capitalised on Jake Taylor’s error.

Carlisle, who had won their last four games, always looked the more likely to score a second but the two play-off chasing teams both had to settle for a point.

“I thought it was a good game, both sides tried to win it and I thought there was a remarkable amount of good football played on a very difficult surface,” Tisdale said.

“It’s very disappointing to lose the lead when you get in front and we haven’t done that too often and it was an unusual mistake from Jake that led to the goal.

“It’s disappointing to lose three points and end up with one, but it is a good point gained against a team on a good run.

“I certainly don’t have any hard feelings with how the team played today and committed and defended. We did a lot right today and played some good football on a very difficult surface.

“They really came at us in that first 20 minutes and we made a couple of adjustments in midfield and began to get on top. They have some real obvious attacking strengths, but we dealt well with it.

“It is hard to score here when you are a goal behind, as we have found out ourselves, but I think both sides will settle for a draw.”

Carlisle, beaten by Exeter in the League Two play-off semi-finals last season, extended their unbeaten run to five games.

Manager Keith Curle said: “We gave a good account of ourselves, got on the front foot quite early and we were unfortunate to go behind.

“Neither team was going to be able to get the ball down and play expansive football. It was a case of playing on other team’s mistakes and you can say that with their goal.

“There are things we could do better, we lacked a bit of urgency inside their 18-yard box.

“We had more of a spring in our step in the second half and were more of an attacking threat. On the balance of play, we are more than happy with a draw because this is a difficult place to come to.

“It was never going to be free-flowing football and overall we defended well. We kept a useful team relatively quiet.”
