Paul Lewis leaves it late to earn Cambridge a point

Paul Lewis struck in the third minute of stoppage time to rescue a 1-1 draw for Cambridge at Wycombe as the hosts’ promotion hopes suffered another blow.
After losing their last two homes games, the Chairboys looked set to get back to winning ways thanks to Adebayo Akinfenwa’s header, but they are now two points behind third-placed Notts County.
Wycombe went ahead in the fourth of nine minutes of first-half injury time, as Akinfenwa flicked Brown’s deep free-kick out of the reaches of David Forde.
Cambridge defender George Taft was then left with his heart in his mouth, as his sliced attempted clearance from Luke O’Nien’s cross came back off his own post.
Forde then denied Akinfenwa a second goal with his feet after Nathan Tyson had skinned Greg Taylor down the left wing before the U’s provided a dramatic late twist.
Nathan McGinley couldn’t deal with a long ball forward and the ball fell to Lewis, who gave Scott Brown no chance with a low effort that found the bottom corner.
