The former Chelsea boss has told friends he wants a job back in the Premier League.

And Starsport understands Arsenal are the club he fancies taking charge of.

Ancelotti, 58, is available having been out of work since leaving Bayern Munich in September.

The Gunners are also believed to have made inquiries about the availability of former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique.

But he has knocked them back, with Chelsea in pole position to appoint him as Antonio Conte's successor in the summer.

The pressure is growing on Wenger following Sunday's limp 3-0 defeat by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Although owner Stan Kroenke and his board appear to have no immediate plans to sack the Frenchman despite renewed calls from fans to axe the 66-year-old.

The next three games look crucial to the Frenchman's hopes of seeing out his contract which runs until the end of next season.

On Thursday, Arsenal face champions-elect City again, at home.

They then travel to in-form Brighton on Sunday, who are unbeaten in six games.

Four days later they are at AC Milan in the Europa League, the competition which looks to give them their only hope of silverware and Champions League qualification.

A worst-case scenario of three defeats would make it six losses out of seven games and could see them trailing fourth-placed Tottenham by 13 points, with just nine games left.

Last night, Lois Langton, chair of the Arsenal Independent Supporters' Association - welcomed the prospect of Ancelotti taking over.

"I think that many supporters would say, if asked, that Ancelotti would be the stand-out candidate in the event that the current manager steps down," she said.

Arsene Wenger's future at Arsenal is in doubt once again

"He has the status, nous, expertise and experience of the Premier League and you would like to think would bring with him the defensive and tactical acumen that would address some of our long identified problems.

"What we witnessed at Wembley was the culmination of years of arrogance and stubbornness.

"The solution is blindingly obvious and it is painful to watch what is happening to our wonderful club.

"For the sake of our football club, the board must grasp the nettle. Nobody is denying what he (Wenger) has achieved for the club but that cannot be used as a self-serving justification to prevent change."
