Neil Harris praises Millwall for finding a way to win at Burton

Millwall boss Neil Harris “couldn’t be happier” after seeing his in-form side secure a scrappy 1-0 victory at Burton.

Ben Marshall’s fortuitous finish in the 61st minute, when substitute Damien McCrory’s attempted clearance hit him and looped into the net, pushed Harris’s side into the top half of the Championship table.

Harris admitted his side were well below their best against the relegation battlers but was thrilled with a fourth successive away win in the league.

He said: “Millwall are going like a steam train at the minute. We have no fear of the division anymore.

“Four in a row away from home and anyone that has seen us all season, we could easily have double that on the road.

“That was probably our worst performance on the road this year, barring Norwich. I certainly felt that Burton should have took something out of the game but I thought we should have comfortably won the home game against Burton so it’s probably swings and roundabouts.

“I have to give the credit to my players for finding another way of winning a game. I couldn’t be happier at the moment.”

“I think if Burton had scored in that five-minute spell before half-time when they were on top then it could have been a different game.

“Sometimes you have to take scrappy goals like we got, goals with a bit of fortune about them, when they come because they don’t come along too often.”

Burton boss Nigel Clough has now seen his team go 13 games without a home win and they sit two points adrift of safety.

Clough said: “It’s another defeat but I’m not quite sure how it was.

“Over the course of the game and with the chances we created and the manner of the winning goal it’s a very poor result but in terms of the performance there was nothing wrong with that apart from a goal.

“Players are human and they miss chances. We had enough chances at Ipswich, here against Forest and today to win all three games.

“The most disappointing thing today is that we have lost it to a fluke of a goal. Damien has cleared it against the lad, it has hit him and he doesn’t know anything about it and it’s dropped into our net. I just wish one would drop at the other end.

“I can’t believe how many balls were bobbling around their box. They were slicing them and that combined with the chances we have missed today… I am not quite sure how we have lost.”
