Sergio Ramos has called for action to prevent the disturbing scenes of violence between Athletic Club and Spartak Moscow fans in Bilbao on Thursday night that also saw a policeman die of a heart attack.
The Europa League meeting between the Russian champions and Athletic was marked as a high-risk fixture prior to kick-off, with the Spartak bringing around 2000 supporters to the Basque region.
These grim predictions came true as clashes just outside of the ground ended with catastrophic consequences.
In a post made on his social media pages, the Real Madrid captain expressed his sorrow about what happened.
"Football, sports and society as a whole can't remain indifferent to violence, fear and this loss of life, we must act and force change," he stated.
