Striker Sammie Szmodics could return for Colchester

Colchester top scorer Sammie Szmodics is expected to return for the visit of Barnet after overcoming back spasms.

The 22-year-old 13-goal striker has not started any of the last four matches but is back in training.

Fellow forward Kurtis Guthrie is still missing with an injury.

On-loan QPR winger Olamide Shodipo is fully fit after a hamstring problem and could be in contention for his debut after being an unused substitute for last week’s defeat at Crewe.

Barnet will check on the fitness of defender Richard Brindley after a knee problem forced him to miss last week’s defeat at Carlisle.

Midfielder Ruben Bover made his comeback from a hamstring injury with a late substitute appearance at Brunton Park and could be in contention for a start.

Goalkeeper Jamie Stephens is still out with a hamstring injury as are defender Harry Taylor (metatarsal) and forward Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro (knee).

Elliott Johnson and Dave Tarpey (both knee) are long-term absentees.
