Robinson lauds ‘excellent’ Addicks after victory over former employers MK Dons

Charlton boss Karl Robinson said the Addicks looked on a “different level” at times as they moved into the League One play-off places with 2-1 win over his former side MK Dons.

Ahmed Kashi and Josh Magennis scored for Charlton with Kieran Agard netting a consolation goal for the hosts.

And Robinson was pleased to see his side hang on for the win, having led in their last three games but only picked up two points.

He said: “I thought we were excellent, I really did. I thought we looked on a different level at times today.

“I was trying to get the fans going at the end because this little run has been hard for all of us as a football club, but we’re back in the top six and we’re leaving here very happy people.”

The Addicks took a deserved lead after just 10 minutes when Kashi fired home past Lee Nicholls after Conor McGrandles had been dispossessed on the edge of his own penalty area.

The visitors doubled their lead on the stroke of the hour when Magennis nodded home Jake Forster-Caskey’s cross for his twelfth goal of the season.

And despite MK pulling one back through Agard just two minutes later from Robbie Muirhead’s corner, it was not enough for the relegation-battling home side who still remain six points adrift of safety.

The result leaves rookie MK Dons boss Dan Micciche with the unwanted record of having lost all five of his matches in charge.

Robinson hopes his old side can turn things round, though.

He added: “I didn’t work hard here for seven years to see them relegated to League Two, that’s not the type of person I am – I don’t want them to fall away like they are and I wish them luck from now on.

“He’s one of the best coaches I’ve worked with, but this is a different ball game obviously. I wish him all the luck in the world and I still speak to him often, whatever he needs I’ll be there to support him.”

Micciche insists he is the man to keep the Dons up.

He said: “In the final third we’re just not showing enough quality, and we have had chances since I’ve been here.

“This is my club and I have so much respect for the chairman – I believe I am the right man for the job.

“We have to try and find a formula to find enough points to survive this season and re-build for next season – everybody has to be positive and stick together.

“I can understand the fans’ frustration because this club shouldn’t be in League One – I appreciate their support and we have 14 cup finals coming up so we all have to stick together.”
