Chris Long pushing for return as Northampton host Gillingham

Chris Long is pushing for a return to the Northampton starting line up against Gillingham.

Saturday’s win at AFC Wimbledon was the first time since October that Long had not started a league game for the Cobblers, as manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink rotated his strikers and handed recent signing Kevin van Veen his full debut.

Hasselbaink revealed at his pre-match press conference on Monday that he has one or two players nursing hamstring injuries, although he did not go as far as naming those concerned.

Shay Facey missed the trip to Wimbledon with such a problem and the right-back remains a doubt.

Lee Martin could be available for Gillingham for their trip to the Sixfields Stadium.

Midfielder Martin missed Saturday’s draw against Peterborough with a calf issue.

Scott Wagstaff is pushing for a starting place after he returned to the bench against Posh following a four-week lay-off with a hamstring issue.

Alex Lacey however, remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
