Gary Bowyer left frustrated as Blackpool are held by Walsall

Gary Bowyer was left frustrated despite Armand Gnanduillet rescuing a point as his Blackpool side recorded a 2-2 draw at home to Walsall.

The away side looked to be heading for victory after goals in each half from Joe Edwards and Jon Guthrie gave the Saddlers the lead.

But twice Blackpool hit back, first through Nathan Delfouneso just before half-time and then right at the death Gnanduillet struck to rescue a point for Blackpool.

Both teams remain close to the bottom three but Bowyer felt his side deserved more from the game.

He said: “It was another frustrating afternoon, but from an attacking point of view we were very good today with the chances we created.

“We have had three (efforts) cleared off the line, had a stonewall penalty not given, so it was a very frustrating.

“We gave it away cheap in our half for the first goal. The second goal went out for a throw-in and he’s (the referee’s) given a corner, but once he’s given that corner we have to defend it.

“Defensively we have been very frustrating, but attacking wise we should have had more.”

Walsall opened the scoring midway through the first half through Edwards, who finished off a well-worked passing move by netting a composed finish from inside the penalty area.

Delfouneso then levelled for Blackpool after 37 minutes when he fired home from the centre of the penalty area.

Walsall defender Guthrie thought he had snatched all three points when he poked the ball home at the back post.

But there was to be another twist when Gnanduillet equalised in dramatic fashion, hammering the ball past the dive of Liam Roberts into the bottom corner, having been fed through by Dan Agyei.

Walsall boss Jon Whitney was left frustrated his side could not hang on for the win.

He said: “The lads are disappointed obviously because that late on, it always feels like a loss when you concede.

“But I think in the grand scheme of things, I think a point is fair.

“They put us under pressure at times, they were quite direct, but I can’t fault the application and the work ethic from our players.

“To come away from home and get a good solid point to take into a home game is positive, so I’m happy for the players.”
