Parkinson lauds Le Fondre for stunning equaliser

Phil Parkinson described Adam Le Fondre’s stunning second half equaliser as “Van Basten-esque” as Bolton ended Fulham’s five game Sky Bet Championship winning run with a 1-1 draw.

Le Fondre’s brilliant, angled left-foot volley came two minutes after his introduction as a 59th minute replacement for on loan Zach Clough.

“He is a great sub,” said Wanderers chief Parkinson. “He doesn’t want to be known as just a good sub.

“But it is important if he is on the bench, he comes off and makes an impact like he did.

“Games can be won and lost from the substitutes’ bench. I think he has the record for Premier League goals off the bench when he was at Reading.

“I have spoken to Alf throughout the season that if he is the sub we need him to give us a lift like he did.

“Cloughie made a good contribution too but he is down on match fitness. I just felt we needed a spark and Alfie and (Filipe) Morais gave us that

“But the way the lads out of the team have trained, players like Alfie, Craig Noone, Morais and Andy Taylor, has been different class.

“That goal has been earned on the training ground even though Alfie’s overall play gave the team a lift when he came on.”

Fulham took a fifth minute lead through Matt Targett’s first ever league goal, heading in from Lucas Piazon’s headed assist.

“I was disappointed with the way we started,” added Parkinson. “We were a bit lacklustre and got punished. After that thought it was a very good performance

“We grew into the game, both teams had chances to win and I am pleased we went toe to toe with the in-form team in the league.”

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic was disappointed his side did not claim three points.

He said: “We came here with the intention to win the game.

“We started the game well and after we scored the first goal we could have scored a second.

“We dominated the game, especially in the first half but didn’t score the second goal. Bolton took a risk and played out of the back, two against two, three against three.

“But we didn’t exploit these spaces and couldn’t get the second goal.

“We created enough chances though in the first and second halves to win the game. Rui Fonte had one against one, Aboubakar (Kamara) had one against one, (Aleksandar) Mitrovic too.

“You can’t dominate though for 90 minutes. In my opinion we didn’t play the perfect game but we did enough to win.

“We created many chances and we tried with two substations to find some benefits from the spaces.

“But Bolton scored a fantastic goal. We took the risk to try and get a second goal but didn’t score.”
