Montrose went six points clear at the top of Ladbrokes League Two after substitute Jamie Redman’s late goal sealed a 1-0 victory over Stenhousemuir.
It was a cagey affair at Links Park but the Gable Endies were able to clinch a third successive win after Redman headed home at the back post from Lewis Milne’s cross 10 minutes from time.
The league leaders were able to strengthen their position at the top of the table by virtue of closest challengers Peterhead being held to a goalless draw at Edinburgh City.
Stirling Albion moved up to third as Peter MacDonald’s double secured a 2-1 victory at rock-bottom Cowdenbeath in an ill-tempered fixture that saw 13 yellow cards brandished.
All three goals were scored inside the final 20 minutes, with MacDonald netting a penalty and then scoring five minutes from time either side of Harvey Swann netting from the spot for the Blue Brazil.
Elgin hit back from defender Steven Swinglehurst’s seventh-minute goal to edge out Annan Athletic 2-1.
Thomas Reilly levelled four minutes later before Andrew McDonald sealed all three points for Elgin with just over a quarter of an hour remaining.
Former Scotland striker David Goodwillie scored from the penalty spot in the third minute of added-on time as Clyde moved above Berwick and into seventh with a 1-0 triumph over Rangers.
