Manchester United's Jesse Lingard sorry for tweet after Munich silence

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has apologised after a tweet in relation to computer gaming was posted on his personal account moments after a silence to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Munich disaster.

The tweet, which Lingard blamed on "a member of my media account," appeared soon after the silence was held at an Old Trafford memorial event at 3:04 p.m. on Tuesday, the exact time of the plane crash in 1958.

In response to a question about when he and teammate Marcus Rashford would play computer game FIFA 18, it said: "Your (sic) not ready for me."

The tweet has been deleted and Lingard posted an apology that read: "A member of my media team inadvertently replied to a tweet this afternoon on my Twitter profile during the Munich memorial service at Old Trafford.

"I was unaware as I was attending the service at the time, and don't condone the post or the timing in any way.

"The post has now been deleted, and I'd like to apologise for any upset caused, this is totally unacceptable and does not reflect my personality or view on this emotional day."

More than 4,500 United supporters attended the memorial at Old Trafford, with more watching on a big screen on the forecourt outside.

They were joined by manager Jose Mourinho and club captain Michael Carrick, who laid wreaths to remember the 23 casualties of the crash, including eight of United's "Busby Babes."

Survivors Sir Bobby Charlton and Harry Gregg were also present.
