John Coleman happy to see Accrington playing with confidence

Accrington boss John Coleman says his side are playing with confidence after they moved up to third in the Sky Bet League Two table with a 2-1 win over 10-man Swindon.

Billy Kee celebrated his 19th goal of the season from the penalty spot after 25 minutes while Kayden Jackson fired home in the 62nd minute to make it six wins in seven games for Stanley.

New signing Marc Richards got one back for Swindon from the spot after 72 minutes but Kellan Gordon saw red moments later to make it an unhappy night for Dave Flitcroft’s men.

Coleman said: “I thought we had moved up to second with the win but we needed another goal for that!

“Swindon are a big powerful side and they will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

“I think this was a victory for a will to win as we ran ourselves into the ground.

“We showed great determination and saw the game out quite comfortably at the end and passed the ball around well in difficult conditions.

“I didn’t think it was a penalty for us nor a penalty for them so that evened itself out really.

“Our frontmen are on top of their game at the moment and attacking-wise we are playing with confidence. You need this to be successful and long may it continue.”

Swindon boss Flitcroft was furious with the dismissal which virtually ended his side’s hopes.

“Their lad has had Kellan in a headlock and they have gone to ground and rolled on the floor,” said Flitcroft. “We got a player sent off for the second game running and it was a key moment.

“It was a really important decision and it was unacceptable. It needs sorting out as it is a problem week in, week out for League Two teams.

“It was a game we certainly didn’t deserve to lose. We did lack some energy in the first half, we were a bit pedestrian, so I changed it and then we had the momentum with the penalty so the sending off has killed us.

“Our players couldn’t have given much more, they have thrown themselves at everything and it’s so disappointing.”
