Carragher: Coutinho isn't worth 140 million euros

One person who isn't impressed by Philippe Coutinho's move to Barcelona is ex-Liverpool player, Jamie Carragher, who suggested that the Brazilian isn't worth the 140 million euros transfer fee that the Catalans paid the Reds for his services.

A mid-season move also didn't curry favour with the ex-defender.

"I don't agree with losing him in the middle of the season," Carragher said on Sky Sports.

"At that time, Liverpool were alive in the FA Cup and are still in the Champions League.

''Liverpool fans, including myself, felt good when Coutinho stayed in the summer, although we knew he was going to go to the end of the season.''

It was put to Carragher that perhaps both the club and the player couldn't turn down that sort of money.

''Coutinho isn't so good," he continued.

"And he's not worth 140 million euros.

"I would've preferred him to earn a little less money, make sure the club had him in this part of the season, and then let him go in the summer."

The former player also talked about Liverpool's transfer window, but the purchase of Virgil Van Dijk wasn't even covered.

''This period can't be classified as a success because we've lost our best player," he noted.

"If you lose your best player, there is no way you can disguise it as a positive window."
