Neil Lennon praises Hibernian debutant Florian Kamberi

Hibernian manager Neil Lennon was delighted with debutant Florian Kamberi after his opening goal set the Leith side on their way to a hard-fought 2-1 Ladbrokes Premiership win over Motherwell at Easter Road

The Switzerland Under-21 striker, signed from Grasshoppers of Zurich on loan until the end of the season, marked his first appearance in green and white by hammering in a strike after 27 minutes.

Barely two minutes after the restart attacker Brandon Barker then scored his first Hibs goal since arriving on loan from Manchester City at the start of the campaign.

Well striker Curtis Main reduced the deficit in the 77th minute but despite some late nerves the home side held out for the win, with Lennon pleased with Kamberi’s contribution.

The Northern Irishman said: “I thought he was superb. I didn’t see that coming.

“I thought we might get 60/70 minutes out of him but with the injuries we had to keep him on.

“He was very strong towards them and gave us a different dimension, scored a fantastic goal.

“I am not getting carried away but it is a very good debut.

“It’s a massive win. I don’t think we can stress the importance enough of the three points against a very good side.

“It gives us a nice cushion at the minute.

“You can see the players are dead on their feet so they gave me everything and that was a massive win in the context of our season.”

Well manager Stephen Robinson was left frustrated by conceding a second goal so soon after the break.

He said: “Disappointed, We’re going to play a lot worse and win.

“To have Hibs backing off into their own half for long periods, it’s good.

“But they’ve got great quality at the top end of the pitch.

“The second goal kills us. You can’t give them a two-goal lead. Lenny has them playing super football. But we took the game to them.

“We had chances, half chances, two great chances in the second half. We created a lot and credit to the boys, they kept going.”
