Crawley boss Harry Kewell feels his side are ‘getting there’

Crawley Town head coach Harry Kewell felt his players were “getting there” after the Reds clinched their fifth win in the last six games with a 2-1 home victory over Accrington.

First-half goals from Enzio Boldewijn and Mark Randall put Crawley in control and, although Stanley pulled one back through an own goal, the hosts held on to continue their fine run.

Crawley won only four of their opening 18 league games, but have since won eight of their last dozen matches.

Asked to comment on his team`s level of consistency, Kewell said: “We are getting there. We accept responsibility and this was a massively important win.

“As good as we were at Notts County on Tuesday, it was important we reacted in the same way.”

Accrington reduced the deficit when an attempted clearance from Paul Connolly went in and Kewell said: “It was a bizarre own goal and it`s about how you react.”

Crawley are now five points off a play-off place and former Leeds and Liverpool star Kewell added:” We have a way of playing.

“As a club we want to head in the right direction. My players are good players and it`s a pleasure to train them.

“You take one game at a time and I know what the players are capable of.”

Accrington have now lost to Crawley twice in just over a month and boss John Coleman felt his men could have won both games.

He said: “Even the most ardent Crawley fan would have felt we deserved a draw.

“We didn`t do it although it wasn`t for the want of trying. But I won`t beat them with a stick; the pitch deteriorated rapidly in the last twenty minutes.”

Stanley had won their previous four games and Coleman added: “We have got to start another run.

“In the first half we had the best two chances and are disappointed with the chances we missed.

“We opened them up time and time again, but didn`t take any of them.

“We did enough to get at least a draw or win. We got back into the game and could have had a couple of penalties for handball.

“We`ve lost six points to Crawley so that is disappointing as we could have won both games.”
