Real Madrid struggle to solve goalkeeper conundrum

Failed signings, unfortunate injuries and costly mistakes have haunted Real Madrid's search for a number one goalkeeper.

Since the start of January 2013, Real Madrid have used 11 different goalkeepers and still look no closer to finding the man they so desperately need.

Despite being linked to Athletic keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, head coach Zinedine Zidane may have to find an alternative due to the Spaniard receiving treatment for a metatarsal injury found in his Real Madrid medical.

Injuries to Los Blancos' goalkeepers have become a common trend in recent times too.

Iker Casillas spent time out in 2012 following a clash at Malaga when Alvaro Arbeloa kicked the former Spain international's hand.

This led to the arrival of Diego Lopez and under Carlo Ancelotti, he found himself starting in the league while Casillas took up the position for the Champions League and Copa Del Rey ties.

Lopez was eventually sold to AC Milan after the arrival of Keylor Navas in 2014.

The Costa Rican has held the number one spot ever since, despite a number of shaky performances.

His eye-catching displays in the 2014 World Cup originally paved his way to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and he has proved his worth over the seasons.

Zidane though appears to be looking for another reshuffle, as did all his predecessors.

With the contracts of David De Gea and Thibaut Courtois coming to their end, the Frenchman may just delve into the transfer market one more time.
