Chelsea legend Michael Essien becomes the latest footballer to be honoured with a awful statue

MICHAEL ESSIEN has been honoured with a bizarre statue in Ghana.
Some of the greats have become victims of dodgy sculptures - including Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Maradona.
Chelsea legend Essien is also part of that elite club.
An image posted on social media appears to show Essien in an old Chelsea kit, lacking a club badge.
But Essien may regret it was ever commisioned, if it ever was, although it is debateable how many locals will see it stationed by what appears to be a car park.
Essien, 35, won 58 caps for Ghana and played at Stamford Bridge for nine years - winning two Premier League titles, four fA Cup and a League Cup.

He went on to play for AC Milan and Panathinkaikos and now plays for Persib Bandung.
But despite slipping into the footballing backwaters of Indonesia, in another respect he has joined some of the greats of the game.
Ronaldo has a strange bust in his honour outside the airport in his home island of Madeira.

And the craziest of the lot is the Maradona mock-up made in Calcutta.
The Argentinian genius visited the Indian city in December to distribute aid to cancer patients.
Essien's, though, appears the worst of the lot.
And it is perhaps surprising it has not been knocked down, with some Twitter users suggesting it has been around for years.
