Nottingham Forest vs Sunderland - Murphy set for Nottingham Forest return against Sunderland

Daryl Murphy is expected to return to the Nottingham Forest side against his former club Sunderland at the City Ground on Saturday.

The forward, who has scored seven Championship goals this season, was rested on Boxing Day as the Reds were beaten 3-0 at home by Sheffield Wednesday.

David Vaughan was also absent against the Owls after failing a fitness test ahead of the game and the midfielder will be assessed once more.

Full-back Danny Fox is fit again after a knee injury and could be back in the squad, while central defender Matt Mills has been nursing an injury, sustained against Bristol City on December 16, and remains a doubt.

Lewis Grabban looks set to miss out for Sunderland as he nurses a calf problem.

The Black Cats' top scorer missed the Boxing Day defeat at Sheffield United and is expected to be recalled from his loan spell by parent club Bournemouth in January, meaning he could well have played his last game for the Wearsiders.

Didier Ndong also sat out the Blades clash with an ankle injury he sustained against Birmingham and will be assessed.

Fellow midfielder Darron Gibson struggled with a groin problem at Bramall Lane and will also be monitored.
