Nathan Tyson and Adebayo Akinfenwa help Wycombe sink Newport

Wycombe secured a sixth straight home win in all competitions as Nathan Tyson and Adebayo Akinfenwa fired them to a 2-0 victory over 10-man Newport.

The hosts opened the scoring after 15 minutes, with Tyson rounding off a brilliant team move. Eberechi Eze's flick opened up the Newport defence, Luke O'Nien played in Tyson and he stepped past a challenge and slotted home.

Newport did their best to force an equaliser, with Frank Nouble causing occasional problems, but the striker was unable to find the final ball, most notably when he fired a shot across the face of goal.

Joss Labadie rattled the crossbar from 30 yards just seconds into the second half, Joe Jacobson was twice forced into last-ditch tackles and Dominic Gape headed off the line late on, but Scott Brown was rarely tested in the Wycombe goal.

And with 12 minutes remaining, Akinfenwa sealed the points, taking the ball on his chest and hammering a volley past Joe Day. Newport's misery was compounded when their captain Labadie was shown a second yellow card in the final minute.
