Real Betis stop rot by beating Malaga

Real Betis registered their first victory in seven LaLiga games as they triumphed 2-0 at second-bottom Malaga.

After the hosts made a bright start to the contest, Betis took the lead in the 24th minute, with former Malaga player Joaquin providing the tee-up from which Sergio Leon hit a shot that Roberto got a hand to but could not prevent from going in.

Just before half-time Joaquin's free-kick appeared to have crossed the line when Roberto's effort to claw the ball away sent it bouncing against the post, but no goal was given.

Betis then did add a second five minutes after the break as the unmarked Victor Camarasa headed in from close range having been set up by Antonio Barragan.

Things got worse for Malaga as unused substitute Adrian saw red for an incident off the field of play.

The win moves Betis up six spots in the table to eighth place, while Malaga remain four points adrift of safety in 19th.
