Barnet off the bottom after rare home win

Posted Sunday, December 17, 2017 by PA

Barnet climbed out of the relegation zone as they beat Morecambe 2-1 to earn their first League Two win at home since September.

Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Jack Taylor scored two goals in quick succession to put Mark McGhee's side in a commanding position at half-time.

They could have had a three-goal lead in the second half but John Akinde missed a penalty before Adam Campbell pulled one back for the visitors.

Campbell-Ryce broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark with a fantastic curling shot from 30 yards.

Just four minutes later Akinde played Taylor through on goal and he beat goalkeeper Barry Roche from inside the area.

The away side came close to halving the deficit at the start of the second half when Callum Lang struck the crossbar with a deflected effort.

Akinde won a penalty after he was brought down by Roche but the striker blazed the spot-kick well over the bar.

Campbell set up a nervy finish by scoring from the edge of the area with 18 minutes left but the home side held on to claim a vital three points.
