James Rodriguez shrugs off Ronaldo comments and Real Madrid return talk

The Colombia international is refusing to read too much into the Portuguese forward billing him a big miss amid the struggles at Santiago Bernabeu

James Rodriguez believes too much has been made of comments from Cristiano Ronaldo suggesting that he is missed at Real Madrid.

The Portuguese forward recently claimed that the reigning La Liga champions have paid the price for parting with senior stars such as James, Alvaro Morata and Pepe.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have endured a tough start to their 2017-18 campaign, with a period of transition having not gone as smoothly as hoped.

James, though, feels that Ronaldo was merely speaking in the heat of the moment and that Madrid have too much quality at their disposal to concern themselves with those no longer on their books.

"They were going through a tough moment and you say things that you shouldn't sometimes,” the Colombia international told Caracol.

"I believe that Real Madrid have very good players to have a really good campaign. They are a massive team, they have a team with the power to change everything. I left lots of really good teammates and friends in Madrid and I always watch them when I can. I keep in touch with Ramos, Benzema and Marcelo."

Having struggled for regular starts during his time at Santiago Bernabeu, James jumped at the chance to link up with German giants Bayern Munich.

He moved to the Allianz Arena on an initial two-year loan agreement which includes the option for a permanent transfer to be completed.

It has, however, been suggested that James could be welcomed back into the fold in the Spanish capital if he proves himself in the Bundesliga, with a slow start having made way for an upturn in fortune.

James, though, is reluctant to be drawn into a debate regarding his future less than six months into his spell with Bayern.

He added: "I don't know. For now, I am thinking about Bayern Munich. I have two years left here, I am doing well here and I am happy."

James has made 17 appearances for Bayern across all competitions, netting two goals and providing four assists.
