ROSS BARKLEY has revealed a huge 10-inch surgery scar and insists it's "not long now" until his Everton return.

The England international has not played a competitive match since suffering a torn hamstring in May.

The Toffees' midfielder, who almost signed for Chelsea in the summer before having a change of heart, could play his first game of the season before the new year.

Barkley, who is also a Tottenham target, is a fortnight away from returning to first-team availability.

The England midfielder is in the final year of his contract at Goodison Park and is yet to agree an extension.

Everton boss Sam Alladyce has insisted that Barkley will be eased back into the first-team squad and revealed the 24-year-old may need to go through a "pre-season" of sorts before returning to the fold.

Alladyce told Talksports: "He's [Barkley] on the mend but for a hamstring it's been a difficult one because of the size of the tear.

"We've got a total of nine injuries at the moment and Ross Barkley has been a long term one. Bolasie, Seamus Coleman – you want all these players back.

"Then you'd have a healthy squad with the Christmas period coming up.

"You have to ease them back into the team as well.
