Serie A side don marvellous retro kit to celebrate their 110th birthday
Serie A side SPAL celebrated their 110th birthday by wearing a retro kit similar to one they wore in the 1950s

The 1950s called. They want their kit back.
No, really. Serie A side SPAL took to the pitch against Hellas Verona wearing a kit straight out of the fifties.
But it wasn't just a crackpot move from the kit man.
No.43 clearly needs the toilet
SPAL were celebrating their 110th birthday although the club have twice been refounded after starting up in 1907.
But the club made an unlikely rise to the top flight of Italian football after being declared bankrupt and placed in Serie D as recently as 2012.
In order to celebrate in style SPAL's sponsor Macron produced the special edition kit.

Only 700 will be sold, with each one costing €110.
So did SPAL's kit bring them good luck or did Verona spoil the party? A bit of both.
SPAL went 2-0 down but scored twice with less than ten minutes remaining to rescue a point.
The kit in action
The point means Verona stay one place behind SPAL in the table, although both are still occupying the relegation zone alongside hapless Benevento.
So not quite the birthday present SPAL's manager Leonardo Semplici would have been hoping for.
But most 110th birthday parties consist of eating ice cream and jelly, so he can't complain.
