A NORWEGIAN footballer has been accused of insulting Norway's royal family - after shoving his penis into the country's FA Cup.

Defender Aleksander Melgalvis, 28, helped Lillestrom lift the King's Cup with a 3-2 win over Sarpsborg 08 on Sunday.

However he got carried away at the team's post-match celebrations, stripping down to a pair of black socks.

Melgalvis then further astonished onlookers by placing his tackle into the trophy as he cavorted around a stage.

But the player sparked outrage, with his antics seen as insulting towards Norway's King Harald.

Norwegian FA spokesman Yngve Haavik said: "Winning the cup is something big, and of course it should be celebrated.

What started as a bit of fun for the Norwegian FA Cup winners soon took a rather dramatic turn

"But surely it is possible to do so without showing such little respect to the King's Cup and all it represents."

An unrepentant Melgalvis insisted: "I don't regret what I did. It was done on the spur of the moment.

"I've received a lot of positive feedback about it, and it was fun."

Lillestrom, based in capital Oslo, have now won the cup six times.

They lost to Newcastle in the Intertoto Cup in 2006, and have also played Rangers, Linfield and Glentoran in previous European ties.
