Fans in disagreement over potential ban for Man City boss Pep Guardiola

Supporters of both Manchester City and the Citizens' title-rivals have taken to social media in their numbers to discuss the incident involving Pep Guardiola and Nathan Redmond last night.

Last-gasp win

City welcomed Southampton to the Etihad for a Premier League clash yesterday evening, with many expecting the hosts to simply sweep aside the Saints with typical brilliance.

However, the matchup turned out to be far from a straightforward one for Guardiola's men, with Oriol Romeu's equaliser 15 minutes from time having thrown a spanner in the works for the Premier League table-toppers, following Kevin De Bruyne's opener in the 47th-minute.

But, just when it looked as though City were set to drop their first points since the 2nd day of the season, man of the moment Raheem Sterling popped up with the decisive goal for the second game running, this time a full 6 minutes into injury-time.

Flashpoint

Unsurprisingly, the majority of the talk following the full-time whistle surrounded Sterling's winner, but there was another incident in the immediate aftermath of the clash which has had social media equally abuzz since.

The talking point involved Pep Guardiola and Southampton winger Nathan Redmond, with the Spanish tactician having embarked on a rather bizarre rant at the English wide-man as the pair made their way off the pitch towards the tunnel.

Guardiola appeared genuinely angry based on his gestures and tone, and even pushed Redmond in the chest at one point.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has since defended his actions, though, explaining that he was actually complimenting Redmond on his talents:

'I said to Redmond how good he is.'

'Last season he destroyed us here, but today he couldn't attack because he defended all the time.'

Reaction

This has since led to a heated debate between fans online, with many supporters of Manchester City's title-rivals (particularly Manchester United) suggesting that Guardiola should be handed a touchline ban based on his actions.

Others, meanwhile, have jumped to the defence of the always-fiery Spaniard, with some of the best roundup below:
