Barcelona advance in Copa del Rey but Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao crashed out
Denis Suarez was among the goals as Barcelona defeated Real Murcia 5-0 in the Copa del Rey

Barcelona eased into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with a 5-0 win over Real Murcia as two other La Liga sides were knocked out.

The La Liga leaders, already 3-0 up from the first leg, never looked in any danger of failing to finish the job at the Nou Camp despite making several changes.

Paca Alcacer headed Barcelona into the lead on 15 minutes, with Gerard Pique making it 2-0 early in the second half before Aleix Vidal, Denis Suarez and substitute Jose Arnaiz completed the rout.

Barcelona went in front when Vidal flicked the ball across the Real Murcia penalty area for Alcacer to head in and also went close through Gerard Deulofeu and 19-year-old midfielder Carles.

Suarez then set up Deulofeu early in the second half, but the forward saw his shot blocked before a goal-bound effort come back off the base of the post.

Barcelona, though, did hit the target again in the 56th minute. Vidal crossed into the path of Pique who knocked a low shot into the far corner and from there the game was done as a contest.

Before Murcia could regroup, they were 3-0 down three minutes later. This time Vidal produced the finish with a diving header from Nelson Semedo's cross.

Suarez latched onto a flick from Sergi Roberto to make it four before the midfielder set up Arnaiz to drill in a fifth to round off an 8-0 aggregate win.

Two top-flight sides crashed out to lower-league opposition, however, as Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad were eliminated.

Third-tier Lleida Esportiu came from 2-0 down after 34 minutes and 3-0 behind overall to score three second-half goals in San Sebastian and progress on away goals after a remarkable 3-3 draw on aggregate.

Bojan Radulovic got the decisive goal against Sociedad three minutes from the end after earlier efforts from Aitor Nunez and Manuel Molina.

Bilbao were the other big-name casualties, losing to another third-tier team as Formentera scored their winner six minutes into stoppage time.

Had they failed to net, they would have gone out on away goals after a first-leg 1-1 draw - but Alvaro Muniz's header swung the tie the other way.

Former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres scored twice as Atletico Madrid beat Elche 3-0

There were handsome wins for Sevilla and Atletico Madrid as they both ensured they would progress to the next stage.

Wissam Ben Tedder scored twice in the first six minutes for Sevilla as their 4-0 win against Cartagena saw them finish 7-0 victors over two legs.

Fernando Torres also got a double in Atletico's 3-0 success against Elche which capped a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Las Palmas defied their poor league form to go through 6-4 overall against Deportivo La Coruna despite a 3-2 reverse on the night.
