LIONEL MESSI looks as focused as a penalty-taker as he battles his five-year-old son Thiago at Fifa 18.

Both were clearly in the zone in a family scene posted on Instagram by wife Antonella - just as Argentina took on Nigeria in the real world.

Messi senior was rested from that friendly after playing in Saturday's 1-0 win over Russia.

He is still commonly rated the best footballer on the planet despite great rival Cristiano Ronaldo pipping him twice in a row to the world player of the year award.

But in years to come such status might not save the Argentine legend from a sound video-football beating from his son if Thiago keeps up his current level of commitment.

Messi can certainly relax at the moment, though, as La Liga officials confirmed today he has signed a new Barcelona contract.

Nou Camp directors claimed the deal had been signed in the summer - the day after his wedding.

But they then backtracked and admitted it had merely been "agreed".

Now La Liga chief Javier Tebas has said: "Messi has a contract and it has been renewed.

"The contracts are official when they're signed, not when they say they're signed.

"And Messi has signed with Barcelona. Unless they're lying to me, he has signed it."

Messi, meanwhile, will hope to outshine Ronaldo at the World Cup next year - after his hat-trick last month booked Argentina's place in a 3-1 qualifying win away to Ecuador.

And he also received an armchair-game boost yesterday - when England flier Raheem Sterling named him in his ideal Fifa 18 XI.

Sterling picked Messi, Ronaldo and himself in attack.

But on the eve of England's clash with Brazil he dropped Neymar to the bench.

Sterling's Manchester City team-mates Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva feature in a three-man midfield alongside Real Madrid's Brazil anchorman Casemiro.

City full-backs Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy flank Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos in defence.

And Etihad's summer buy Ederson is in goal.
