Jake Jervis nets winner as strugglers Plymouth battle for win at Bradford

Jake Jervis scored the winning goal as League One Plymouth extended their unbeaten run to six matches across all competitions with a 1-0 victory at high-flying Bradford.

Plymouth's other hero was keeper Remi Matthews, who saved a second half penalty from Bradford right back Tony McMahon to cap a fine display.

The only goal came after 35 minutes and was against the run of play when Jervis scored from close range following Lionel Ainsworth's low cross from the right.

Bradford continued to dominate, but were frequently denied by Matthews, who is on loan from Norwich City.

He produced two superb saves to keep out goal-bound shots from Paul Taylor in the 39th and 45th minutes to ensure the visitors led 1-0 at half-time and he and his defenders continued to deny Bradford in a one-sided second half.

The nearest Bradford came to scoring was in the 57th minute when midfield player Jake Reeves saw his 20 yard shot rebound off the crossbar.

For the most part they were denied by a strong Plymouth defence and when they were given a lifeline in the 78th minute they squandered the chance.

Captain Romain Vincelot was pulled back as he tried to meet Nicky Law's cross, but Matthews dived to his right to keep out McMahon's spot kick.
