Inter Milan miss chance to go top of Serie A after draw with Torino

Inter Milan missed the chance to return to the top of Serie A after being held to a 1-1 draw by Torino.

Eder's late goal maintained Inter's unbeaten record this season but they are a point behind current leaders Napoli having played a game more.

Iago Falque had opened the scoring for mid-table Torino in the second half with a brilliant solo effort.

Matias Vecino nearly won it for the hosts at San Siro with two minutes left when his 25-yard strike rattled the crossbar.

In-form Inter, who had won five of their previous six games, were expected to maintain their unbeaten record but struggled to find a rhythm against the dogged visitors.

Daniele Baselli twice went close early on for Torino while Milan Skriniar was denied by Salvatore Sirigu in the visitors' goal.

Boss Luciano Spalletti has made an instant impact since he joined Inter from Roma in the summer but his side failed to break Torino down and paid the price on 59 minutes.

Falque stunned the home crowd when he held off three challenges and his jinking run ended with the ex-Tottenham man firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Inter finally levelled with 12 minutes left when Mauro Icardi knocked down Ivan Perisic's cross for the unmarked Eder to finish from six yards.

It sparked a late flourish from the hosts and Vecino's rasping drive came back off the bar as Torino held on for a point.
